SC declines PIL on Credit, Debit, ATM cards

3.4.2012 (UNI) The Supreme Court refused to entertain a PIL seeking directions to the authorities to make it mandatory to affix photograph and signature of the holders on credit card, ATM and debit card issued to them to check frauds.

A bench comprising Chief Justice S H Kapadia and Justices A K Patnaik and Swatanter Kumar dismissed the petition, saying there are RBI guidelines and if, further, instructions are required then the petitioner should approach the central service.

Counsel for the petitioner had, earlier, contended that strict rules are required to check the increasing incidents of credit card and ATM frauds depriving the people of their hard earned money. UNI
